China's Police State

U.S. Firms Scramble to Build Beijing's Big Brother

by William Norman Grigg

"New rules demanding surveillance systems be installed at numerous business and public sector venues across China are prompting a surge of interest by companies involved with 'Big Brother' technologies, with multinationals such as General Electric, Panasonic and Honeywell being joined in the rush for business by smaller firms such as China Security and Surveillance Technology," reported the August 8 South China Morning Post.

“Industry experts estimate that about 9,000 companies are engaged in providing various security and monitoring hardware, software and services across the mainland.”

“Homeland Security” is a huge business in the United States, and it’s expected that China’s efforts to bring its police state up to modern specs will create a $33.18 billion market for security technologies by 2009.
